London Elections 2004
London Bikers are Voters Pack
On 10th June 2004 Londoners will have the opportunity to be elect the Mayor, 25 Members of the London Assembly, (14 Constituency Assembly Members and 11 London-wide Assembly Members) and nine Members of the European Parliament. The elections will be the most complicated and largest single electoral event ever held in the UK.
What are you voting for?
You will have five votes in total:
- A first choice for Mayor of London
- A second choice for Mayor of London
- One vote for a Constituency Member of the London Assembly
- One vote for a London-wide Member of the London Assembly
- One vote for a Member of the European Parliament
MAG does not expect you to solely base your decision on who to vote for on a candidates position on Powered Two Wheelers (PTW’s, Motorcycles, Scooters and Mopeds).
But as MAG continues to work with bodies, such as the London Motorcycle Working Group within Transport for London we need to know where candidates who could drive future policies in London stand on motorcycling issues.
This also helps form the views of the candidates by demonstrating the strength of feeling of the voters that ride bikes.
Issues such as continued exemption for PTW’s from Congestion Charging, rational road safety strategies, PTW parking, Bikes in Bus Lanes and Advanced Stop Lines (ASL)
How to Raise the Issues
MAG has produced a “London Bikers are Voters Pack” which includes a letter template and suggested questions to send to candidates for the Mayor and Assembly Members.
You may wish to use this template as is or modify it using your own words.
There is also a further list of universal questions covering motorcycling issues through out the UK.
You may wish to include these when contacting the candidates.
